Wolves Wrestling Weekend Recap

Indianapolis, IN (NSUWolves.com) – The (RV) Northern State University wrestling team opened the Midwest Classic on Saturday with ten Wolves in competition. Four Wolves advanced to the second day of action, with No. 7 Wyatt Turnquist and Braydon Mogle moving on in the championship brackets. Northern sits 21st with 30.5 team points.
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE ADVANCING FOUR
  • Mogle tallied two wins for the Wolves, defeating Caden Canning of Wheeling via fall at 0:40 and No. 6 Isham Peace of Lander in a 7-4 decision
  • Turnquist went 3-0 in the day with victories over Drew Bell of Fort Hays State (TF 18-2), Caden Jacobs of Grand Valley State (fall 2:00), and Torry Early of Chadron State (dec 6-3)
  • Mason Fey advanced in the 174 consolation bracket with a 2-1 record and wins over Chris Mapp of Newman (fall 1:49) and Macon Myers of Pitt-Johnstown (dec 5-4)
  • Tyson Lien fall in the opening round, but rattled off three wins to advance to day two, defeating Matthew Richardson of East Stroudsburg (maj 12-1), No. 14 Nigel Williams of UNC Pembroke (dec 2-1), and No. 7 Wyatt Miller of Grand Valley State (MFFL)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE FULL TEAM
  • Sloan Johannsen went 1-2 with a technical fall (17-1) win over Roverto Estrada of Western Colorado
  • Brenden Salfrank tallied a 1-2 record with a win over Richard Patanjo via fall (1:02) in the opening round
  • Griffin Lundeen posted a 2-2 record with wins over Cade Johnson of Kentucky Wesleyan (TF 16-1) and Seth Thomas of Salem (dec 5-3)
  • Nathan Schauer went 1-2 with a 9-2 decision win over Gavyn Uribes of Kentucky Wesleyan

Indianapolis, IN (NSUWolves.com) – The (RV) Northern State University wrestling team closed out the 2024 Midwest Classic with a pair of top-8 finishers. Braydon Mogle took eighth at 141-pounds, while No. 7 Wyatt Turnquist took fourth at 149-pounds. Northern finished 21st as a team with 47.0 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mogel went 1-3 on the second day of competition; he fell to No. 5 Christian Small in the quarterfinals by decision (1-0)
  • The 141-pounder rallied back for a victory by fall at 0:20 over No. 9 Mason Myers, however fell to Sean Solis of UMary (dec 4-1) and No. 6 Isham Peace of Lander (SV-1 4-1) in his final two matches
  • Turnquist went 3-2 on the day, falling in his opening match to No. 5 Dean Noble and No. 10 Gabriel Onorato
  • The 149-pounders victories came against No.9 James Ryan of Kutztown (dec 7-1), Kenny Kiser of Gannon (dec 7-1), and No. 3 Dylan Brown of Central Oklahoma (dec 3-0)
  • Mason Fey was in action on the consolation side of the bracket, falling to No. 7 Dalton Gimbor of Kutztown by fall
  • Tyson Lien battled through the consolation bracket with a 1-1 record Sunday, notching a win over Brayden Dillow of Central Missouri (dec 9-7), prior to a loss against Gabriel Carranza of Colorado Mesa (dec 4-1)
