Woman arrested following high-speed chase through Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KBHB) — Rapid City Police arrested a 37-year-old Rapid City woman, after a wild and dangerous high-speed chase through town in pursuit of a stolen vehicle this morning.

Police got the report of a stolen vehicle sighted on Atlas Street just before 8 a.m., and found a woman asleep behind the wheel of the parked vehicle. When they woke her up, she started the car and fled, nearly striking an officer and hitting a parked car.

The pursuit went north on Nickel Street, then the woman threw the vehicle through a chain link fence and into oncoming traffic on I-190, and the chase was terminated.

The vehicle was seen headed west on I-90 a short time later, and attemped to drive into a ditch and through a fence to elude police again. She fled the stalled vehicle on foot and tried to hide in a nearby camper.

37-year-old Danielle Lucas of Rapid City is facing a variety of charges including motor vehicle theft, eluding and hit and run.
