PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Work continues to build a brand new river crossing between Pierre and Fort Pierre. Pierre Area Engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation Dean VanDeWiele says the underwater portion of the construction should be done in about a month.
Work is well underway on the Pierre side of the John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge.
And while the old Waldron Bridge, which sits just feet from where the new Waldron Bridge, will be torn down after the new bridge is ready for traffic, the D-O-T still conducts regular inspections of the span.
The new Waldron Bridge is expected to be ready for traffic in 2024.
