Work on new airport terminal in Watertown could start this fall

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KWAT) — Construction on Watertown’s new airport terminal could get started as early as Oct. 1.

Airport Manager Todd Syhre says sealed bids will be opened Aug. 20. They’ll be reviewed by the Airport Board on Aug. 31, with a construction bid awarded by the city council at their Sept. 8 meeting.

He says there’s been a good level of interest among contractors on this project.

Syhre says they’d prefer to see a local contractor get the work, but there’s no guarantee that’ll happen.

It’s an estimated $21 million project.

The new terminal will be located just northeast of the existing one.

A completion date is estimated to be late 2021 or early 2022.
