YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- The Yankton County Commission voted to make Native American Day an official holiday for county employees.

County Register of Deeds Brian Hunhoff appeared before them to make a plea.

Commissioner Dan Klimisch said its part of being a competitive employer.

Commissioner Cheri Loest says holidays do come with extra costs.

The holiday was passed on a voice vote, which was counted as a three to two approval.
