Yankton man identified in motorcycle-vehicle crash

YANKTON, S.D. (Press Release) – A Yankton, S.D. man has been identified as the person who died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday afternoon in Yankton.

A 2013 Honda Civic was westbound on South Dakota Highway 50 and attempted to make a left-hand turn south onto Adkins Drive. The vehicle collided with a 2003 Harley Davidson FLHTI, which was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 50.

James Schirmacher, the 55-year-old male motorcycle driver, was not wearing a helmet suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported first to the Yankton hospital and later flown to a Sioux Falls hospital where he died Sunday.

Abigail Newman, 16, Yankton, was driving the Honda Civic. She was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Charges are pending.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
