Yankton School Board votes to hold election for property tax opt out

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The Yankton School Board has voted to hold a special election on Feb. 11 to let voters decide on a property tax opt out.

The board voted to approve the issue at a special meeting Thursday.

Board President Kathy Greeneway says they have learned from the failed opt outs seven years ago.

Greeneway says the opt out process has been transparent.

Greeneway asked the board to support the opt out.

The opt out if passed would be for a term of four years. The board approved the issue unanimously.

Absentee voting started Friday at the School District Administrative Headquarters on West City Limits Road.
