YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The Yankton School Board has voted to mandate wearing face masks by all students and staff when school starts next month. The board, during a special meeting Tuesday night, debated several proposals before settling on covering everyone in school buildings. There will be an exception when staff and students can be socially distanced.

Superintendent Wayne Kindle says its about health and safety.

Governor Kristi Noem said she wants schools to concentrate more on controlling any outbreaks of coronavirus rather than close.

Kindle says they have worked with state and local health advisors on when to close and when to stay open.

Kindle says they will also have online learning available.
