YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – While the recent discovery of zebra mussels in Lake Sharpe raised alarms, damages are being done further down the Missouri River.
Tom Curran, Operations Manager at Gavins Point Dam near Yankton says they have been dealing with zebra mussels for several years.
Curran says they have continual problems with the heat exchangers for their hydro generators.
Curran says they also have issues with the mussels on the gates on both sides of the dam.
There is no effective predator or control of the invasive species.
