Zinter portrait unveiled Monday

PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – Family, friends and members of South Dakota’s legal fraternity gathered Monday on the first floor of the South Dakota State Capitol to unveil a portrait of former Supreme Court Justice Steven Zinter. Chief Justice David Gilbertson says the portrait is something Zinter wasn’t big on.

Reed Rasmussen, President of the South Dakota State Bar Association says Zinter was well respected by many.

Zinter’s brother Gary says while Zinter may have been born in Minnesota he developed a strong connection to South Dakota.

Zinter’s grandson Sawyer was called on by Sandy Zinter, Steven’s wife to pull a blue covering off the painting. The short ceremony lasted less than 10 minutes with around 100 people in attendance. Zinter passed away unexpectedly last fall at the age of 68.
